Cockroach Allergy And Asthma

Asthma is on the increase and so is the allergy to cockroaches.
While most people who are allergic to insects need to be stung by the insect, cockroaches need no contact with the asthmatic. Just like being allergic to dustmites, it is the cockroaches discarded shell and feces that become airborne and become a respiratory irritant precipitating the asthma attacks.

While most people aren't allergic to just the cockroach, those who are allergic to dust and mold are most susceptible says an expert at Eastern Connecticut Ear, Nose & Throat.

The German cockroach is the roach causing all the problems as it is the most commonly found species in homes, offices, schools and other businesses open to the public. It can be easily controlled with traps.

Green Tea Fights Lung Cancer

While the antioxidant qualities of green tea has been known for some time, there is now research that shows that green tea may actually prevent lung cancer.

A researcher at the University of California at Los Angeles has found that polyphenols in green tea activates a chemical reaction in a lung cancer cell that may actually prevent cancer.

In Japan, where tea is drank several times a day cancer mortality statistics on Japanese people indicate that the death rate from cancer is significantly lower, for both men and women.

Chamomile Tea--A Natural Anticoagulant

For people taking coumadin, or it's generic, warfarin, chamomile tea can be a friend or enemy.

Doctors prescribe coumadin, the blood thinning medication, for people who might get blood clots which can lead to strokes and heart attacks.

Studies show that chamomile , a natural flowering plant of the daisy family, contains coumarin, a naturally occurring compound with anticoagulant or blood-thinning effects.

Patients taking the medications need to be aware that chamomile tea can enhance the blood thinning effects of the drugs so the dosage of the drugs need to be monitored very closely.

Red Clover Reduces Slugs

Gardeners battle with slugs every season. Every trick in the book has been used from chemical baits to beer traps, diatomaceous earth, crushed egg shells, and even copper flashing as a barricade.

Now scientists say that companion planting can be a true organic way to control slugs.

Scientists at the Harper Adams University College, Shropshire, UK, have discovered that planting red clover can lure slugs away from plants. Slugs love red clover above everything else and will eat the clover leaving the desired plants alone.
