If you have the common cold, don't waste money on a doctor visit for an expensive antibiotic.
Antibiotics are medicines for bacterial infections but do not kill viruses. The common cold is caused by a virus which is not killed with an antibiotic.
According to doctors at Washington University in St. Louis, taking antibiotics during a cold only help to create more antibiotic resistant bacteria making antibiotics less effective against disease causing bacteria.
Cold sufferers should drink plenty of fluids, rest, and maybe try the old fashioned chicken soup, garlic, and other natural remedies.
