The lowly snail may one day be a producer of pain medication, lessening the need for synthetic drugs and narcotics which can be addictive for people with severe chronic pain.
Studies conducted at the University of Utah and Wake Forest University show that the toxic venom can stop nerve pain and may be available within the next 10 years.
Snails are a close relative of slugs. Slugs are a common nuisance in the garden but maybe the lowly slug will one day show medical promise as well.
